A digital painting of little ghosties doing their shopping at The Shambles street in York - one of the oldest and best preserved medieval streets in the world!  

The inspiration for this piece:

York has a reputation for being one of the most haunted cities in England and has so many wonderful quirky little shops. I visited the city recently for the very first time and found The Shambles so busy with people that I had to come back after dark to get a good photo.

When returning to the street at night, all was quiet and this image popped into my head! I wanted to paint what it might look like when the ghosts do their shopping after all the tourists have gone home.

Fun fact: the little ghostie carrying a ghost ornament out of the York Ghost Merchants is holding a black and orange 'Phantom' - the same one I purchased from the YGM Dispensary that same day!

How it was made:

Painted by me, using a digital pencil and tablet in Procreate. This is based directly from a photograph I took of The Shambles after dark. I wanted it to be dark and spooky, but also fun and a bit whimsical. There are lots of little details here to enjoy and is perfect for anyone who loves a bit of Halloween on display all year round.

    Sizes

    • A4 prints are approximately 21cm x 29.7 cm
    • A5 prints are approximately 14.8cm x 21cm (please note A5 prints have a small white <1cm border around the print).
    • A6 prints are approximately 10.5cm x 14.8 cm

    Print quality

    • Prints are produced using a Canon Pixma Inkjet printer and genuine Canon inks.
    • Artwork is printed on a high quality 170gsm Matte Photo Paper for rich, vibrant colours with a smooth finish.
    • Please note that monitor and device settings can cause colours to appear differently in print than on screen.

    What will I receive?

    • Your choice of print on high-quality 170gsm Matte Photo Paper.
    • Your print will be packaged in a cello bag with a recycled cardboard backing card to help keep it flat and protected from moisture.
    • Prints are sent in a stiff, cardboard-backed envelope or mailing box.
    • This listing is for a print only - there is no frame included.

    Most items take around 2-4 working days to dispatch.
